Music and Art in the Shaping of the European Cultural Identity

Abstract

The national scholarly conference with international participation titled Music and Art in the Shaping of the European Cultural Identity was conceived as an important segment and the central event of the Jean Monnet module Music and Art in the Shaping of the European Cultural Identity, led by a team of the teaching staff at the Musicology Department of the Faculty of Music in collaboration with colleagues from other faculties of the University of Arts in Belgrade. Note that the Department of Musicology, aware of the global medical crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic and the uncertainty of foreign participants’ attendance, organized and conducted the conference on April 8 and 9, 2021, in a virtual space.

Author Biography

Marija Simonović, PhD Candidate and Research Assistant, University of Arts in Belgrade, Faculty of Music, Department of Musicology

Marija Simonović is a Ph.D. Candidate, Research Assistant and Teaching Associate at the Department of Musicology, Faculty of Music, University of Arts in Belgrade. Her areas of interests are fin de siècle music, philosophy of music, the relationship between music and other arts (literature and painting). Her graduate thesis, which was published as part of the (collective) volume (Wunderkammer/Their Mastersʼ Voice) of student master’s theses, is titled Cabin with mirrors – ‘images’ of water in the piano music of Claude Debussy – between Bachelard’s essay on water and dreams and ‘reflections’ of water in the artistic expression of the 19th century, and it is written under the mentorship of Prof. Dr. Tijana Popović Mladjenović. The title of her doctoral dissertation, approved under the mentorship of Prof. Dr. Tijana Popović Mladjenović, is Imagination of fire, water, air and earth in the poetics of music at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries.
